Our Director, David Graham has just returned from a two week tour with Motown legends The Temptations Revue in Germany. The band is headed by Glenn Leonard who was lead singer in The Temptations from 1975 to 1983 and also featured former member Joe Herndon.
The Temptations are best know for their classic Motown hits such as My Girl, Get Ready, Papa Was Rolling Stone, Ain’t Too Proud To Beg, The Way You Do The Things You Do, Ball of Confusion and many more. Glenn Leonard was lead singer in the band from 1975 to 1983 and since 2000 has been touring with his Temptations Revue playing all of the classic hits with former Temptations member Joe Herndon plus Andre Jackson, Kareem Ali and Joe Coleman. For this recent tour Joe Coleman was replaced by Shelton Cornelius Price.
The singers and their Musical Director Ron Hasley flew over from the US to Frankfurt and there teamed up with the musicians from the UK including Erwin Keiles (guitar), Steve Walker (trumpet/keys), Simon Goulding (bass), Guy Richman (drums) and David (sax/percussion). The band rehearsed at the hotel in Frankfurt and headed out on the road for seven shows in Germany.
German Tour Dates
The group travelled via tour bus and performed at the following cities – Darmstadt, Münster, Mannheim, Bayreuth, Stuttgart, Bad Neustadt and Coburg. Most of the shows were in large club type venues or concert theatres.
We asked David which places were the highlights for him and he said, “I love Germany. It’s such an overlooked country by us in the UK but has so much to offer. There are stunning views and architecture and I think the people are lovely. My highlights on this tour were visiting Bayreuth, the home of classical composer Richard Wagner where I visited the Bayrueth Festival Theatre, plus The Wagner and Franz Liszt Museums; Stuttgart where we were able to visit the Porsche museum (a personal favourite); and Coburg (home of the Saxe-Coburgs and Prince Albert) where we visited Veste Coburg (Coburg Castle).”
“The audiences were all extremely receptive and loved the show but particular favourites were the festival in Bayreuth with around 4000 people and the brilliant audience for the last show in Coburg.”
David has also been touring the UK with ‘The Nat King Cole Songbook Live’ featuring singer Andy Abraham who came runner up on The X Factor in 2005. This tour has visited over 20 venues across England with great success. David has been playing sax and keyboards alongside Andy, Chris Taylor (Musical Director/piano), Tim Rose (guitar), Simon Goulding (bass) and Neil Bullock (drums). There are just three shows remaining…. Friday 14th of June at the Lichfield Garrick Theatre, Wednesday 19th of June at The Brindley Theatre in Runcorn and the Westfield Theatre in Clacton-on-Sea on Fri 28th of June (David will not be appearing on this show).
Another tour in Germany with Glenn Leonard’s Temptations Revue is in the pipeline for October this year with possibly 15 dates. Watch this space!
